Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 3:35 p.m. for the two-car crash. Jonathan W. Hopkins, 34, of South Kingstown, was found to be operating his motorcycle at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic when he struck the rear end of a Ford Transit van in the right lane of travel. Hopkins was transported to Newport County Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. A 51-year-old New Bedford man operating the Transit and his 48-year-old passenger were both uninjured.
