Motorcycle operator in fatal Jamestown Bridge crash identified

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island State Police have identified the operator of a motorcycle involved in a fatal crash on the Jamestown Bridge Thursday.
Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 3:35 p.m. for the two-car crash.
Jonathan W. Hopkins, 34, of South Kingstown, was found to be operating his motorcycle at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic when he struck the rear end of a Ford Transit van in the right lane of travel.
Hopkins was transported to Newport County Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
A 51-year-old New Bedford man operating the Transit and his 48-year-old passenger were both uninjured.
The eastbound lanes were closed for 30 minutes and all four lanes of travel were reopened around 5 p.m.
There are no charges or moving violations for the Transit operators.
