$45M construction work to cause closures for Green Bridge in St. Bernard Parish

ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Drivers who travel over the Green Bridge in St. Bernard Parish will have to find an alternate route for their commute.
Officials with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced the Louisiana Highway 47 Green Bridge will be fully closed on two separate November weekends.

This is due to a $45 million restoration project for crews to perform structural rehab work on the bridge including cleaning, painting and navigational lighting installation of the main truss.
The first closure is set from 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1 to 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4. The second closure will happen from 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 to 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 18.
During the closure, DOTD officials say drivers will not be allowed on the bridge and anyone wanting to travel north to Interstate 510 will detour to Louisiana Highway 39, Elysian Fields, Interstate 10 and back to Interstate 510.

Drivers headed south to Louisiana Highway 47 can detour to Interstate 10, Elysian Fields, Louisiana Highway 39 and back to Louisiana Highway 47.
So far, DOTD officials say more than 70% of the project is complete with full completion expected for spring 2025.
