GRETNA, La. (WGNO) — It's the first football season for Louisiana's newest team of teenagers. The mascot for these gridiron guys is the Yak. Yes, a Yak, a big buffalo-looking long-haired ox with horns. That makes them the Yaks from YACS, Young Audiences Charter School in Gretna. Red light district, red hot memories at New Orleans Storyville Museum WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood sitting in the stands, listening to something coming from the corner of the team's weight room. It's the sound of sewing machines, a symphony of stitches. Head Coach Dennis Christopher said the team made a call that he didn't see coming. "Like a quarterback sack." The football team is also in the business of repairing their own uniforms. "If you can help somebody, then you should. And if you look good, you play good," said quarterback Caleb Scott. NOLA’s giant friendship bracelet traded to friends in Indianapolis After he inherited a sewing machine and taught himself how to use it, he recruited other members for his team of tailors including Kerryelle Brown from the band and free safety Tory Butler. It takes teamwork. The team that sews together, plays together.
