Flags to be lowered statewide Saturday in honor of Sen. Johnnie Turner

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state office buildings to be flown at half-staff on Saturday in tribute to State Senator Johnnie Turner, who passed away on October 22 following injuries from a lawn mower accident last month. Turner, 76, served in the Kentucky State Senate since 2021 and previously in the State House from 1999 to 2002.
Officials report that the accident occurred when Turner accidentally drove his lawn mower into the deep end of an empty swimming pool at his home in Harlan.
Visitation for Turner is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Harlan County High School, with his funeral set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Harlan. Flags across the state will be lowered from sunrise to sunset Saturday in his honor.
