Man arrested after Charlotte crash that killed 2, injured minor, police say

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Two people have died and two are hurt following a serious crash in west Charlotte, according to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.
The crash was reported around 8:13 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, on the 3200 block of Freedom Drive near Ashely Road.
Officials say a 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage driven by 70-year-old Gregory Matthew Thompson was driving north on Freedom Drive and tried to make a U-turn when the Mitsubishi was struck by a 2010 Dodge Challenger driven by 34-year-old Tajarvis Deonte Wall.
Thompson and his passenger in the Mitsubishi, 70-year-old Connie Lee Yates, both passed away at the site of the crash, according to authorities. Wall and his passenger in the Dodge, a juvenile, were both taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Everyone was wearing their seatbelts.

Freedom Drive heading east towards Charlotte was closed at Tuckaseegee Road during the on-scene investigation.
