Police: Multiple businesses in Wisconsin fail alcohol compliance checks, sold to underage person

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WFRV) - Ahead of Halloween, police in southern Wisconsin did compliance checks at multiple businesses to see if they would sell alcohol to an underage person.
According to the Janesville Police Department, on October 30 it did alcohol compliance checks at 13 businesses that sell alcohol. This was reportedly done by having an 18-20-year-old try to buy alcohol from a business.

Officials say that if the underage person was allowed to buy the alcohol, the clerk would be citied. The information is also forwarded to the City of Janesville Alcohol Licensing Committee for review.
According to the police department, of the 13 businesses, five sold to underage people. The five were Festival Foods, Lions Quick Mart, Hy-Vee, Five Point Beverage, and Mulligans Convenience Store.
The list of the other eight businesses that did not sell alcohol to the underage person can be found on the Janesville Police Department's website.

Police said that the purpose of doing these checks is to make sure that businesses are checking identification and not selling to underage people.
