Nov 01, 2024
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Lukas Van Ness has been named the team’s nominee for the 2024 NFL Salute to Service Award, which honors NFL players, coaches, and staff dedicated to supporting military and veteran communities.
Van Ness, whose grandfather served 27 years and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, grew up with strong ties to the military. He quickly became involved with veterans and active service members following his selection in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
For the latest on the Green Bay Packers:
In his rookie year, Van Ness participated in the Packers' 'Huddle for Heroes' event, where he connected with veterans, answered questions, and expressed his appreciation for their service.
Additionally, he has written letters to encourage active-duty military members during deployment and supported a family mourning a fallen soldier by painting a flag in their loved one’s honor.
As the Packers' 2024 Salute to Service spokesperson, Van Ness is raising awareness for this initiative and encouraging fans to join the campaign.
