FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) - A suspect known to law enforcement as a 'safety risk' led Fond du Lac County authorities on a pursuit of a stolen vehicle from a local rental business on Halloween that ended in a hayfield. According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office, on October 31, deputies got word from a local rental business about a stolen vehicle. Deputies say the rental company provided the suspect's name and a potential address to where the vehicle may be located. The suspect was reportedly known to law enforcement due to a previous high-speed pursuit and threats against law enforcement, and had been flagged as an 'Officer Safety Risk.' However, the vehicle and suspect were not found. Once the vehicle was officially reported as stolen, the rental company was able to ping the vehicle's location to be heading north on CTH V near Highway 151. An officer with the Fond du Lac Police Department was then able to find, and subsequently follow, the vehicle south on CTH V. Other law enforcement arrived before a traffic stop was conducted. Deputies say the vehicle initially stopped but then allegedly continued on CTH V at a slow speed while authorities followed. During the 'slow' pursuit, the suspect reportedly called the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center, stating he was "refusing to stop" while allegedly questioning the legitimacy of the traffic stop.
