NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has directed flags in Noble County to to flown at half-staff in honor and remembrance of U.S. Army Sgt. Sarah Roque. Sgt. Roque was killed in October at an Army base in Missouri where she was stationed. She grew up in Ligonier. Roque had been reported missing after she didn't show up for duty on October 21 at Fort Leonard Wood. Her body was found in a dumpster, and later that same week the Army said a person of interest was taken into custody. Fort Leonard Wood posted on its Facebook page that Specialist Wooster Rancy, 21, is facing murder charges in connection with Roque's death. Specialist Rancy is originally from North Miami, Florida, and serves as a combat engineer with the 509th Clearance Company, 5th Engineer Battalion. He joined the Army in 2022 and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood. Ligonier honors homicide victim Sgt. Sarah Roque with vigil following soldier’s return home Roque's body was returned home to Ligonier on Tuesday. She enlisted in 2020. The 23-year-old served as a mine dog handler and a member of the 5th Engineer Battalion. Flags should be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset in Noble County on Saturday, Nov. 2. Gov. Holcomb is asking businesses and residents in Noble County to lower their flags as well.
