PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. (WSAV) - City officials launched a new app, Port Wentworth GA app is a part of the new age for the rapidly growing city, currently around 16,000 people. The has been in the works since February. Deputy City Manager David Stahl said the app offers the latest news, events and information about the city and its leaders. “The city is trying to have a better opportunity to reach out to its residents, improve its quality of life, and create the ease of use with this application to allow individuals to pay their utility bill or sign up for those recreational sports instead of having to drive across the city and fight the traffic.” Stahl said it enables users to stay informed about facility rentals, recreation classes, senior services and election information. He said the city continues to showcase upgrades as it strays away from the ‘small port city’ feel. Recently, the city unanimously approved a plan that aims to alleviate truck congestion along the south coastal highway, along with the beautification of the downtown area. Back in August, the Ghost Pirates Ice Cove and the City of Port Wentworth amphitheater broke ground. “We have a lot of growth coming,” Stahl said. “We have a lot of residents coming.  You know, we have roughly 3,500 houses that are online to start construction.  So, we're going to see an influx in that.  We have a lot of good development coming.  We have a lot of individuals looking at our city for development.” Stahl said the app is something the people of Port Wentworth deserve. “The city is making a digital push to come into the new age,  and I think we are proving that by going dot gov by creating this application and working with partners in our communities to further produce more digital opportunities for our citizens,” he said. The app is compatible with both iPhone and Android.
