Rainy weather fails to dampen Columbus trickortreat

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Whether it rains or shines on Halloween night, kids are always out in full force for trick-or-treat.
Thursday was a successful Halloween in central Ohio even with the on-and-off rain because local trick-or-treaters didn’t let a bit of rain stop them from getting into costume and collecting candy.
Parent Addie Holsinger said for her kids, the rain is the fun part.
“The kids love it. It’s better than the snow and we have ponchos and umbrellas, so it’ll be fun,” said Holsinger.
There were some unique and amazing costumes walking the streets of Clintonville. People passing out candy said that’s the best part.
“It’s great to see all the kids dressed up in the neighborhood and it’s great that we have some nice weather for the first time in like five years,” resident Nicole Adolph said.
“The vibes are definitely high. The energy is there,” resident Sarah Dawes said.
A few communities around central Ohio actually had trick-or-treat on Wednesday instead of on Halloween because of the potential for bad weather. Thursday night’s trick-or-treaters said they were happy to be out on that day.
“I’m actually excited for the rain because I think it’ll make it more of a fun experience. My makeup will smear so I’ll look more like Batman,” trick-or-treater Anissa Rhoades said.
“I think it makes it spookier and kind of like the fall leaves, the cold air, the rain, it feels good,” trick-or-treater Sophia Reing-Hurley said.
And even the ones who don’t love the rain did not change their plans on Thursday night.
“Oh no, these guys won’t let me change the plans. We’re still going, full throttle,” parent Megan O’Brien said.
“We kind of just sit out here and enjoy it. Eat some chili,” Adolph said.
“Yeah, rain or shine, the kids are out here, we’ve got to be out here. Got to show up for them,” Dawes said.
And for the kids, the only thing on their minds was candy. Trick-or-treaters said last year it was snowing and freezing cold in Columbus so the rainy but warm fall weather was a welcome change.
Overall, it was an extremely successful Halloween in Clintonville.
