Second raccoon in October tests positive for rabies in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) -- Another raccoon has tested positive for rabies in Alexandria.
The Alexandria Health Department issued a second Rabies Alert after a raccoon came into contact with a dog near Sanger Avenue along a trail at Dora Kelley Nature Park on Oct. 27.
The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) said the raccoon is now dead and the dog is in confinement.

This is the second raccoon to test positive for rabies in Alexandria this month.
There is an increased risk in that area and anyone who had physical contact with that raccoon needs to call the health department at (703) 746-4910.
Anyone who sees animals exhibiting signs of rabies should call AWLA at (703) 746-4444.
