MARYLAND (DC News Now) -- On this final day of early voting in Maryland, candidates for the 6th Congressional District seat, which extends from part of Montgomery County and takes in all of Frederick, Washington, Allegany and Garrett counties, were locking up support. It is a competitive district that could decide control of the closely divided U.S. House. Election Day looms as Maryland’s Senate nominees mobilize voters Republican Neil Parrott, a former state lawmaker making his third bid for the seat, was joined in Frederick Thursday by the majority leader of the U.S. House Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.). Parrott took the occasion to announce his opposition to the proposed Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project, a 70-mile transmission line originating in the eastern part of the 6th District. "It will hike electricity prices 30%, costs we can't afford," Parrott said. "When people send me to Washington they will know that I will fight against that project and work for the people in District 6." Scalise was right to Parrott, backing his bid for the seat. "Neil understands the policies it will take to lower food prices and the price of gas at the pump and energy prices on your utility bill," Scalise said. Meanwhile, Democrat April McLain-Delaney rallied supporters with an endorsement from Congressman Jamie Raskin (D-Md.). Introducing Raskin in Gaithersburg, McLain-Delaney said, "These are serious times and these are serious issues and the future of our kids is at stake." Maryland Gov. Wes Moore told McLain-Delaney supporters he hopes she will join ranks on Capitol Hill with Raskin come January. "The person we need to make sure joins the remarkable delegation we have in Washington is clearly April McLain-Delaney," Moore said.
