GERMANTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) -- The Salgado family of Montgomery County is embracing the Halloween spirit with open arms and open doors through their annual “Haunted Manor” event.
Pahan Salgado and his sister turned the outside of their home into an immersive Halloween exhibition.
“We do this to give back to the community, for all the little kids in our neighborhood and everyone,” Salgado said. We’ve been doing this since we were little kids and it’s just our family tradition that we didn’t stop.”

The tradition dates back to 2010, and every fall, the Salgados decorate the exterior of their home with dozens of animatronics, jack-o-lanterns and lights.
The Haunted Manor is free to attend, but they kindly ask for donations to support the Manna Food Center.
“We know there’s a lot of people who are out there who can’t afford to go the Field of Screams or haunted houses that cost a lot of money, so we do this because it’s free,” Salgado told DC News Now. “People who cannot afford something like that are able to come here and have the same sort of somewhat excitement.”
The Haunted Manor features a walkthrough display where the Salgados provide free food and drinks. They’ll be handing out full-sized candy bars Halloween night at 11104 Knights Ct. in Germantown.
“We’re going to have music outside. The lights are going be on, and people are just going to be coming by, walking through, just having a good time,” Salgado said.

The Haunted Manor is open from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Halloween night and is expected to draw hundreds of people.
Pajan said the goal of his event is to allow the community to engage in Halloween fun while embracing the spirit of charity.
“I feel that it’s important to give back to people, especially those in need. So doing something through Halloween and then Christmas lights and giving back to the community is something greater than just putting some lights on your house,” Salgado said.
