SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Five people were arrested in connection with illegal drug transactions near the homeless shelter on Worthington Street in Springfield. According to Springfield Police Department Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, an increase in drug dealing surrounding the Worthington Street and Taylor Street areas has been reported by businesses and treatment centers. In response, the Firearms Investigation Unit conducted surveillance that resulted in five arrests. On Wednesday, detectives arrested 56-year-old Luis Figueroa, 35-year-old Jansy Cruz, and 32-year-old Jonathan Fonseca-Tirado on the 700 block of Worthington Street. Approximately 55 bags of heroin, 60 suboxone, 2.5 grams of cocaine, and nearly $500 in cash were seized.
