CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A North Chesterfield man won a $1 million Mega Millions prize and a Chesterfield BP gas station received $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, according to Virginia Lottery.
James Holmes of North Chesterfield checked the Mega Millions' winning numbers on Tuesday, Sept. 24 and told his wife "I think we may have won something."
Holmes happened to be right -- the numbers on his ticket matched the first five numbers in the drawing. He was just one number away from winning the $62 million jackpot.
The winning numbers were 1-6-10-23-27, with the Mega Ball number being 18. According to Virginia Lottery, one other winning ticket was bought in the Mechanicsville area of Hanover County.
The ticket was purchased at Beulah BP Mart, located at 4424 Beulah Road. On Oct. 31, the executive director of Virginia Lottery presented a check of $10,000 to the store for selling the $1 million winning ticket.

This is not the first time a million-dollar ticket has been sold at that store. In February 2014, a customer purchased a Mega Millions ticket that received the $1 million prize.
The Virginia Lottery said the odds of matching the first five numbers of the the Mega Millions is a 1 out of 12,607,306 chance and the odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot is 1 in 302,575,350.
