Ice cream shop sets up huge haunt for Halloween

BELLINGHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — When most think of Halloween they think of candy, but Chevy’s Ice Cream in Bellingham is bringing the haunts to life with an all-out display.
“My father opened Chevy’s Ice Cream in 2012, he kind of did it to get himself on the map and get recognized, it was large like this right out of the gate and as I now know, this is an enormous undertaking,” Owner Shayna Murray said.
After a big break from the large display, Murray said she convinced her dad it was time to resurrect the spirit of the holiday and bring the community together, especially after a plow truck destroyed the store’s sign and fence in April.
“We are so grateful that nobody got hurt,” Murray said. “We are always thankful for our customers, we always love our customers. People are always so happy when they come here, but after that accident happened we were so grateful that no one got hurt and it made us realize how important that was.”
She said it took four adults and six weeks of hard work to put on the display.
“It was a lot of work, there were days when we were frustrated and a lot of laughter,” David Dean of Woonsocket said. “But also, at the end of the day, to see it all go up was pretty incredible.”
The Murrays said the display always draws in large crowds.
“They are here with their cameras. We chain the parking lot off at night, people park next door,” John Murray said. “They are taking photographs, they love it.”
The shop will officially close up for the season on Nov. 8.
