WESTPORT, Mass. (WLNE) — A whale washed ashore on a beach in Westport on Thursday.
The NOAA said that the whale was a humpback and a necropsy was performed by the International Fund for Animal Welfare.
The whale’s body could be seen on Elephant Rock Beach.
An NOAA spokesperson added that the agency has been tracking “unusual mortality events” of humpback whales since 2016.
They added that members of the public can report stranded marine mammals and sea turtles at 866-755-6622.
Viewers submitted videos to ABC 6 of the whale’s body being buried by workers.
