McKee defends actions on ILO contract

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee held a press conference Thursday defending his actions relating to his awarding of an education contract to the ILO Group.
Attorney General Peter Neronha decided not to bring any charges after investigating the governor’s $5.2 million deal with the group.
However, he did criticize McKee’s actions which he believed “steered the contract” towards ILO, against the recommendations of a state review team.
“On a one-to10 [scale], it was zero-point-zero-zero, that I would be involved, and I take a lot of offense to this personally, that I would be involved in anything that that would even have ‘bribe’ in the sentence,” McKee said. “This guy, the attorney general, he mislead everyone in his press conference yesterday, there was not a procurement violation, and yet he said there was.”
The review was originally launched to discover if a lower bidder was overlooked due to McKee having ties with the ILO Group’s leadership.
