NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — New Bedford firefighters rescued a family of goats who appeared to be out for a stroll on Acushnet Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters spotted a mother goat and her two kids walking alongside a dog, possibly a St. Bernard, shortly after 4 p.m., the fire department said in a social media post.
With assistance from a neighbor, the firefighters put a leash on the mother goat and led her into the fire station, with the baby goats following closely behind.
New Bedford Animal Control was called for assistance, and the neighbor safely secured the dog.
The goats were temporarily placed in a fenced area behind the station until they were returned to their nearby home, the fire department said.
