OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Driver's license delays with Service Oklahoma almost prevented a metro mother from casting her ballot. She's now giving a warning to other voters. Michelle Karolicki said she's been without a valid driver's license for a month, after renewing her recently expired license online. Service Oklahoma. Photo courtesy KFOR. "I received an email saying that the registration was accepted and that my credentials would be here within about 10 days. That was early October," Karolicki said. "It's important for people to stay on top of the dates." When calling Service Oklahoma for an update on her license, she said she was told that they were unable to print any driver's licenses due to a card manufacturer issue. Before deciding to call herself, Karolicki said she was not contacted by Service Oklahoma about the delay. Karolicki said she had plans to cast her vote by absentee ballot and ran into a problem with her notary because of her license. "Photo IDs, there are only certain ones that are accepted, and my driver's license is the only ID I would have had. So I would not have been able to submit for notary," Karolicki said. According to the Oklahoma Secretary of State's office, notaries are required to ask for an ID with a photo and signature. This would be a driver's license or passport. Why some Oklahoma counties have more places to vote early "It concerns me that there is a potential for voter suppression," Karolicki said. Karolicki had to work around her tight schedule and make an appointment to get a temporary license. She said if she had waited any longer, she may have not been able to vote. News 4 reached out to Service Oklahoma about the delays with driver license delivery and received the following statement. When Oklahomans renew or replace their driver license or state ID online, applications are reviewed by a Service Oklahoma Driver License Examiner. Through the application process, we make it clear that a temporary credential will not be issued with an online renewal or replacement and that it may take up to 30 days for their ID or license to arrive by mail. To help Oklahomans stay informed during the process, Service Oklahoma created the License Mail Tracker, a simple tool where Oklahomans can track the status of their online renewal here. For urgent needs requiring immediate identification, we recommend Oklahomans visit any licensed operator or Service Oklahoma location to order a new credential. There, a temporary state ID or driver license is printed for the customer to use until the physical credential arrives. Britnee Joyner, Senior Public Information Officer for Service Oklahoma Karolicki said she's grateful she didn't wait until Election Day to get her ballot notarized. "I am a mom, I have two kids, I work full time. There's no way that I would have been able to get in and out of there and able to go to work that day," Karolicki said. The deadline to submit your absentee ballot is election day by 7 p.m. If you're voting in person on Election Day, or taking part in early voting, state law does not require a photo ID, you just need your voter ID card.
