L55 Tacos & More is the next iteration of the Michelin-honored LOLA 55 The next generation of a popular local Mexican spot will be revealed on on Monday, November 4 at Westfield UTC. L55 Tacos & More is the forward-looking evolution of LOLA 55, the East Village taqueria that opened in 2018 and earned a Bib Gourmand rating from the Michelin Guide the following year.
Though its original East Village restaurant will remain as-is, the company — steered by owner Frank Vizcarra, a veteran of mega-corporations like McDonald’s and Del Taco — will be focused on this new scaleable format for all future expansion. It’s already transformed its booth at the Rady Shell, and the LOLA 55 that landed in Carlsbad in 2023 will soon be pivoting into an L55 outpost.

L55 Tacos & More lands at the mall around the corner from the Apple store in the 2,800-square-foot space that was formerly Tocaya Organica. With glass doors that fold open onto its patio, the restaurant’s dining room — done up in seafoam green and millennial pink — is decorated in works inspired by the traditional cut paper folk art found throughout Mexico.
Chef consultant Daniel Soto, who worked at Mexico City’s two-Michelin-starred Pujol, has streamlined LOLA 55’s menu of ‘Cal-Mex cuisine’, distilling it into five core proteins that will be available as taco plates, burritos, and bowls based on rice and beans. Beyond Soto’s versions of birria, carnitas, and carne asada, diners will also be able to choose from black chicken tinga or a Lion’s Mane mushroom barbacoa served with nopal salad. Another meatless option is the 3 Sisters Bowl, featuring beets, corn, and squash topped with vegan cotija cheese and chipotle dressing. The fast-casual restaurant have a rotating aguas frescas in flavors like pineapple-ginger and tamarindo, as well as paletas and other desserts.
