WINCHESTER, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Winchester Police Department (WPD) says it responded to reports of gunfire near South Burns and Euclid Avenue early Thursday afternoon. According to a post from WPD, officers received the call around 12:55 p.m. and set up a perimeter to search for suspects in the area. Clark County Public Schools (CCPS) and the CCPS Police Department initiated lockdowns for nearby schools as a precaution.
Authorities confirmed, in the Facebook post, that no shots were fired on school property and that no suspects entered school grounds during the incident. Police worked with school officials to ensure a safe dismissal of students to their parents while the search continued.
By 1:56 p.m., WPD reported that they had detained three individuals and recovered a firearm. The investigation is ongoing, and all affected schools have lifted lockdowns, with normal operations resuming.
