KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- This Halloween, Independence Police are trying to find out how a seven-year-old child died in the community.
Police say that yesterday, October 30, the death of the child occurred in the area of 32nd and Chrysler Avenue. Police also claim that the death happened "sometime in the evening hours." IPD responded around 8 p.m., though.

“It came in for as a medical emergency involving a juvenile," said Kelley Rupert with IPD.
"Fire got here and they decided they were going to need police assistance, and we were called around 8 p.m. last night to join them. Keep the family in your thoughts and prayers. Send the positive vibes. There’s a lot of people that are upset, justifiably so, there are a lot of people that have been impacted by last night. It’s going to be a long road.”
It has yet to be specified whether the child was a boy or a girl, but it has been confirmed the child was a student in the Independence School District.
A lifelong Independence resident, David Brown, the incident has left the community on edge, and for good reason.
"It makes you feel a little insecure and uneasy about things. I pray for the family,” he shared.
“When we got home, there were a lot of police cars located on Crysler there, along with an ambulance and a fire truck. I counted at least six police cars and didn’t know exactly what happened because we weren’t aware of anything that took place until we got home. Then, I found out from you that there was a child that was killed. It’s so distressing for a neighborhood, especially around Halloween when you are looking forward to seeing the neighborhood kids dressed up in their Halloween costumes and come trick-or-treating. It's distressing to hear.”

Investigators are still searching for answers at the home where the death occurred, but according to Rupert, the incident is sure to take its toll on everyone involved.
"But when you're dealing with a juvenile, a child, it definitely has a bigger impact on your first responders, on their mental health, as well as the family and the neighbors and everyone around," Rupert continued.
Police say there isn't believed to be a threat to the public, but no arrests have been made.
