LEBANON, Ind. — A Boone County man was sentenced to 60 years at the Indiana Department of Corrections on Thursday. According to the Boone County Prosecutor's Office, 45-year-old Andre D. Johnson was convicted on Sept. 11 of one count of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death (Level 1 Felony). The jury gave a unanimous verdict after a three-day trial. However, due to Johnson admitting he is a habitual offender, that added the maximum sentence of 20 additional years to his prison time. The BCPO said this stems from an incident that took place on or around Oct. 23, 2020. According to police, Johnson delivered fentanyl to Wesley G. Johnson (no relation) on this date. Wesley Johnson then ingested a high level of fentanyl, resulting in his death. "Much of the crime we see as prosecutors is directly tied to illegal drugs," said Prosecutor Kent T. Eastwood. "Individuals who choose to deal drugs need to be placed in prison — the narrative that drug crimes are victimless must stop. It is time for the criminal justice system to hold drug dealers accountable for the devastation they are inflicting on our community."
