Visitor arrival, spending increased in September

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- There were 707,486 visitors to Hawaii in September, a 7.8 percent uptick compared to last year, most of those visitors were from other areas of the U.S.

Spending also saw a boost of 4.6 percent compared to last year and 16.3 percent compared to September 2019.
The average length of stay is less than 2023, at 8.23 days to 2023ʻs 8.61 days.
Visitors from Japan continue to flock to Hawaiiʻs shores but with a slight rise of 64,940 over 2023ʻs 64,580. This rate is still -54.9 percent less than in pre-pandemic 2019.
Air capacity increased to 4,476 flights compared to last yearʻs 4,376 but remains less than the rate in 2019 of 4,533 flights.
"The rebound of Hawai‘i’s cruise industry, which has surpassed pre-pandemic 2019 levels, was also a contributing factor in September’s performance. Nine out-of-state cruise ships brought 18,655 visitors to the islands in September 2024, more than double the number of visitors who came by cruise ships in September 2023 and 3.0 percent higher than September 2019," DBEDT director James Kunane Tokioka said in a statement.
