CHILTON, Wis. (WFRV) – The Calumet County Highway Department welcomed officials from nearby municipalities on Thursday for a winter equipment open house, aimed at encouraging best practices in snow and ice control. “Our goal is to accelerate local adoption of best practices in snow and ice control,” the department said in a release. The Calumet County Highway Department has enhanced its own winter maintenance program in recent years and shared its insights with attendees. The event, co-sponsored by Wisconsin Salt Wise, is part of a broader initiative to host eight equipment open houses across the state. Wisconsin DNR called to assist semi fire that began to spread, semi completely destroyed Wisconsin Salt Wise, a coalition dedicated to reducing salt pollution in lakes, streams, and drinking water, is collaborating with various local partners, including the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District, UW-Oshkosh, and multiple counties. The coalition works to educate and train communities on effective salt use and recognizes contractors who prioritize efficient salt application in winter conditions.
