Man Charged In West Charlotte Crash That Killed 2 People

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A man has been charged following a fatal car crash in west Charlotte on Wednesday morning.
The crash happened around 8:15 a.m. on Freedom Drive on Tuckaseegee Road.
Upon arrival, officers located a 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage with extensive damage and a 2010 Dodge Challenger.
Gregory Thompson, 67, was operating the Mitsubishi with a front-seat passenger, 70-year-old Connie Yates. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Tajarvis Wall, 34, was driving the Dodge Challenger with a juvenile passenger in the car. Both were wearing seatbelts and were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said Wall was traveling southeast on Freedom Drive when he collided with the Mitsubishi as it was making a U-turn.
Investigators said excessive speed from the Dodge was a contributing factor in the crash. Toxicology results are still pending.
Wall was released from the hospital and was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. He has been charged with the following:
Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, 2 counts
No Operators License
Improper Use of Lane
Child Safety Seat Violations
Speeding
Window Tint Violation
