Man dead, one hurt in crash after SUV tries to pass 18wheeler, officials say

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) - One person is dead and another injured after a crash in the 23000 block of Greenwell Springs Road.
The Central Police Department responded to the scene around 5:40 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran said it happened between J L Fairchild Road and Denham Road.
He said, "A black SUV traveling north attempted to pass an 18-wheeler in a no-passing zone and hit a pickup truck head-on."
The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the pickup truck was taken to a local hospital, according to Corcoran. Police identified the deceased as Jeremiah Butler, 26.

Greenwell Springs Road between Hooper Road and Denham Road was closed but has reopened. The Central Fire Department and EBRSO were also called to the crash scene.
The investigation into this crash remains ongoing.
