Kern County Museum's 'Safe Halloween' event takes the stress out of trickortreating
Oct 31, 2024
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- If you're planning on taking the kids trick-or-treating this Halloween but you're dreading walking all those blocks and dodging all those cars maybe the Safe Halloween program at the Kern County Museum is just the ticket.
It's year 20-something for the event at the Kern County Museum – its biggest fundraiser of the year, taking place two nights, Oct. 30 and 31, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Guest judges crown the 2024 Sunrise Spooktacular winner
Trick-or-treating on the front porch of historic and sometimes spooky homes, laser tag, a deejay and dancing. Trick or treat bags are supplied, don't bring your own. Food and beverage options are available. Best of all, less walking with toddlers in tow.
Kern County Museum Director, Mike McCoy, knows how important that can be.
"The good thing is, now that I just got a new knee, you only have to walk a half-mile and you get the same candy as if you went out door to door in a neighborhood where you have to walk three miles. You can get that done, especially with the little ones. Cause I've got a three-year-old grandson and to have him walk three miles would be brutal because I'd be carrying him. But having him come out here, it's really easy."

Brenna Charatsasis, the museum's director of Safe Halloween, said the event is held in a safely enclosed environment.
"It's a good time, and then you don't have to worry about your neighborhoods, you can meet and come with other families, meet your family here, it's great. No traffic. We're our own sweet little Pioneer Village."
Tickets are $10 for children, $5 for adults, available at the gate or thru Eventbrite.com.
So, break out the Halloween costumes or just grab yourself a pillow case. It's Safe Halloween time again at the Kern County Museum.
