AUSTIN (KXAN) — During a joint event Thursday with the Austin Police Department, AT&T announced a $10,000 reward related to copper cable thefts or the attempted sale or purchase of stolen AT&T copper cable in Austin.
AT&T said the reward, which is valid for leads received by Nov. 1, 2025, would be given for “specific and detailed information that leads to arrest and conviction.”
The public was asked to report any unmarked (non-AT&T) vehicles or individuals cutting and removing cable.
“Copper theft often damages our critical communications infrastructure, which can cause network outages that leave our customers without the ability to connect,” said Bird Holmquist, Director of External Affairs, AT&T Texas. “Maintaining high-quality service is a top priority, and we’re working closely with law enforcement to investigate any incidents.”
According to the telecommunications company, tipsters can remain confidential.
AT&T said the best ways to contact APD to provide a tip included:
Contacting 911 to provide information regarding thefts that are actively occurring
Contacting APD Detective Rocky Reeves at (512) 974-5308 to provide tips and leads regarding thefts previously committed
After contacting APD, AT&T said tipsters should call its Global Security & Investigations hotline at (800) 807‐4205.
