Lake County Retired Teachers Association to hear about ‘Moralists in Disguise’
Oct 31, 2024
The Lake County Retired Teachers Association next luncheon meeting will be held Nov. 12 at The Kirtlander Party Center, 9270 Chillicothe Road in Kirtland.
Social time begins at 11 a.m., followed at 11:30 by the program. After the program, lunch will be served — the menu choices are chicken piccata or veggie penne pasta, both served with wild rice, salad, dessert, and beverages, according to a news release.
The program for the luncheon meeting is “Moralists in Disguise” with Mark Dawidziak. It explores the intriguing personal and professional parallels between Mark Twain and Rod Serling. Born about 90 years apart, Twain and Serling were two iconic American writers who each became a master of a form used to disguise moral lessons –Twain with humor and Serling with fantasy.
Dawidziak is the author or editor of 25 books, a recognized Mark Twain scholar and a television, film and theater critic at the Akron Beacon Journal and the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Reservations for the luncheon must be made in advance, by Nov. 1. A check payable to “LCRTA” for $27 is to be mailed to Karen Sawitke at 9399 Ridgeside Drive, Mentor, OH, 44060. Indicate meal choice on the memo line of your check.
LCRTA will be collecting items such as winter hats, coats, boots and sleeping bags for Sub Zero Mission. Also, the collection of pull tabs from aluminum beverage cans continues, as LCRTA will deliver the pull tabs to McDonald House, the release stated. Attendees are asked to bring both donations to the meeting.
All retired teachers who have retired under STRS of Ohio, or an out-of-state retirement system, are invited to attend the luncheon and are eligible for membership. Associate memberships of $10 are available to others interested in the objectives of the chapter and of public education.
