Statewide test of Kansas election equipment starting soon, what to know
Oct 31, 2024
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Kansas election officials are set to test the state's voting equipment ahead of the Nov. 5 General Election.
Whitney Tempel with the Kansas Secretary of State's (SOS) office announced in a press release on Oct. 31 that accuracy testing will be taking place of tabulating equipment statewide. Election officials will test the equipment prior to the Nov. 5 General Election to ensure they count ballots correctly.
“This testing is an additional step to provide voters with assurance their vote is captured accurately and securely,” Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab said. “I encourage Kansans to observe this process and learn more about the efforts our trained county election professionals take to safeguard our systems.”
Kansas law dictates that tabulating equipment must endure "logic and accuracy testing" both before and after the election. Election officials do this by submitting both correct and incorrect ballots through tabulators to ensure they are counting correctly.
