Over the last five years APD arrested or cited 2,600 adolescents ages 11 to 17. Some of the most common arrests are for auto thefts and gun-related crimes. Medina said arresting kids doesn’t change the systemic problem. With the legislative session nearing, he’s suggesting lawmakers tackle the problem a different way, by forming a committee that addresses youth from the bottom up. [2] Santa Fe City Council votes to initiate study on moving Santa Fe Soldiers Monument - For months the city council has been debating a proposal to the Soldier’s Monument in Santa Fe to the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The obelisk at the center of the plaza was torn down by protestors in 2020. The monument honoring Civil War Union soldiers has been criticized for a plaque with a derogatory reference to Native Americans. A proposal to the resolution initiates a study of the feasibility of moving the monument. Councilors voted to approve the study, saying it will provide information that is needed before decisions are made. [3] A cold Halloween start, but warmer temperatures ahead - With the clear skies, light winds, and dry air, it’s starting off the coldest of the season on Halloween morning for most locations with sub-freezing temperatures for many. However, with sunshine today, temperatures will rise more than yesterday for most. [4] Conflict over parking for Trump rally in Albuquerque solved - The Sunport is warning travelers to expect some traffic delays due to former President Donald Trump's rally. They say anyone who is flying out, dropping off a passenger or picking someone up should arrive at least three hours before their scheduled departure of arrival because of anticipated parking and traffic congestion at the airport. The Sunport is also reminding travelers that the airport can be accessed from Yale or Girard, off Gibson. [5] ABQ homeowner brings back popular Halloween attraction and food drive - A house in the northeast heights is bringing scares this year and it's all for a good cause. Bryan Huskisson has been providing scares for the neighborhood for the last 12 years. He and his friends spent ten weeks building this year's display. People can come to the house with food donations. Huskisson donates the food to the YMCA for meal kits they give to families at Thanksgiving. Huskisson said they’ve collected and donated 5,200 cans of food over the past four years.
