A cold Halloween start, but warmer temperatures ahead
Oct 31, 2024
NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – With the clear skies, light winds, and dry air, it's starting off the coldest of the season on this Halloween morning for most locations with sub-freezing temperatures for many, including around the Albuquerque Metro, as far south as Southwest New Mexico, with temperatures as low as the teens to single digits in the far Northern Mountains.

However, with ample sunshine today, temperatures will rise more than yesterday for most, with the exception of slightly lower high temperatures in Southeast New Mexico, as westerly winds will pick up a little bit this afternoon. From the morning school commute on into the trick-or-treating afternoon hours, temperatures will eventually reach into the upper 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s from northwest to southeast in lower elevation, still below-normal for most communities.
Temperatures will eventually rebound through the early half of the weekend as humid air will stick around in the East Plains, setting up a wetter and more-wintry storm system to arrive late this weekend into early next week.
