AP Photo/Nate Billings Jeremy Sochan for MIP? Coming off of a loss to the Houston Rockets this past Monday, the Spurs looked to make a statement in Oklahoma City with an upset win over the Thunder. With last night’s game being their second nationally televised game of the season, the Spurs had the opportunity to show the rest of the league that they’re not the same team as last year. Unfortunately, OKC had other plans. The Spurs were supremely careless with the basketball and were lackadaisical in transition defense. They turned the ball over 22 times, resulting in 27 points for OKC. OKC also drained 17 threes (most of them wide open) and ultimately resulted in the Spurs faltering 105-93. Harrison Barnes led the Spurs with 18 points on 7 of 12 shooting, four rebounds, an assist, and a steal. His veteran presence continues to be a bright spot for this up-and-coming Spurs team. He is now averaging 12 points per game on 58% shooting. Here, Barnes runs the pick and roll with Chris Paul to perfection. Thanks to the great pass from CP3, Barnes has an easy layup! Barnes goes to work in the isolation and finishes a tough jumper over Isaiah Joe for two. Final frame on deck! So far Jeremy is playing like a sleeper Most Improved Player candidate averaging 18.5 points per game and nine rebounds per game. The footwork! Jeremy takes Alex Caruso to the paint and shows off the pump fake and pivots around for the tough finish! Second quarter up next! Jeremy continues to show the post moves by giving Holmgren the up and under for two. gettin' crafty with it pic.twitter.com/dQsLPqZrft— San Antonio Spurs (@spurs) October 31, 2024 Chris Paul had a solid outing with 14 points, nine assists, five rebounds, a steal, and a rejection. When you talk about veteran presence, CP3 has made a huge difference in terms of pure playmaking. When he has the ball in his hands, you just know he is going to make the right play 99% of the time. He’s averaging a cool nine points per game and 7.2 assists per game so far. He also had three triples in this game, including this laser over Cason Wallace. back-2-back triples for @CP3 pic.twitter.com/YtgiJrqeLD— San Antonio Spurs (@spurs) October 31, 2024 How about a pull-up three off the screen? Too easy for CP3. another one pic.twitter.com/wzWLb2j1aA— San Antonio Spurs (@spurs) October 31, 2024 Zach Collins shows off his range by draining a three at the top of the key. If he can become a consistent three-point shooter, teams will have to respect his shot. SPLASH pic.twitter.com/ooWjNOi4xp— San Antonio Spurs (@spurs) October 31, 2024 While on the subject of three-point shooting, Julian Champagnie splashes one from the corner. He is shooting just under 37% from three early in the season, and will have to continue to hold down the two-guard spot till Devin Vassell’s return. from the corner pic.twitter.com/hk4a5SbyOZ— San Antonio Spurs (@spurs) October 31, 2024 Victor Wembanyama struggled in this game offensively after battling an ankle injury in the first half. He finished with a career-low six points, eight rebounds, three blocks, and two assists. He is going to have to play more aggressively if the Spurs are going to compete for the play-in this year. Finally, here are the full game highlights. The Spurs take on the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City tonight at 8:00 P.M. (CST) on FanDuel Sports Network.
