PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The man who became known as the "Bearded Bandit" for a series of bank robberies in 2012 will be sentenced in January for another robbery. Justin Worley, 45, of Cranston, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges of bank robbery and conspiracy to commit bank robbery, U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha announced. Cunha said Worley admitted to a federal judge that he was involved in the robbery of an East Providence bank on New Year's Eve 2019. He and another man, Nicholas Lage, who was armed with a knife, approached the counter at the TD Bank on Pawtucket Avenue and demanded the teller empty the drawers. The pair made off with around $12,000, according to police. They were spotted and arrested later that day at Twin River casino. BACKGROUND: ‘Bearded bandit’ back in custody, suspected of robbing East Providence bank Lage, 38, pleaded guilty to the same charges in April 2021 and was sentenced that August to three years in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Worley was previously convicted in federal court in 2012 for robbing nine banks, which included the one he eventually robbed again in 2019. He served more than six years in prison. Worley is scheduled to be sentenced for this latest robbery on Jan. 30, 2025. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Breaking News SIGN UP NOW
