Gusty showers arrive on Halloween
Oct 31, 2024
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Halloween! We are tracking some rain showers arriving by the time trick-or-treating begins later this evening. A gusty line of showers and a few storms will be approaching from the west during the afternoon. This line will be approaching the bluegrass region between the mid-afternoon and the early evening hours. The line is expected to weaken as it moves east of I-75. For trick-or-treating, if you are in central Kentucky you can expect a round of gusty showers followed by lingering isolated-to-scattered showers. If you’re in far southern and southeastern Kentucky, this rain should hold off until after trick-or-treating.
Up until the rain moves in it is going to be warm and windy. Early afternoon highs will be peaking around the upper 70s for most of the area. Wind gusts as high as 30-35+ mph will be possible, particularly across central Kentucky during the midday and into the afternoon. Rain moves off to the south and the east overnight and into early Friday morning. Lexington and surrounding areas should be dry to start Friday, but if you’re in southern or southeastern Kentucky your Friday may start off damp and dreary.
Quick Shot of Cooler Air
Cooler conditions are expected for Friday behind the cold front that will be firing up the Halloween showers. Morning temperatures will be around 50 for most of central Kentucky and we will struggle to reach the low-to-mid 60s briefly during the afternoon. You can expect a cooler, northwesterly breeze throughout the day as well. This is actually right around average temperature-wise for the first day of November.
Weekend Forecast
Saturday will start off chilly, with a most of the are falling into the upper 30s and low 40s. We are expecting a warm front to lift through the area late Saturday into Sunday. This will bring a round of showers, mainly for central and northern Kentucky. Unseasonably warm air will be moving in after the front passes on Sunday.
Very Warm Start to Next Week
Near record warm temperatures will be possible Monday into Election Day on Tuesday. There is a small chance of a few showers Sunday into Monday, but you can expect this time frame to stay mainly dry. The record high in Lexington is 78 (2015) on Monday and 79 on Tuesday (1977). Both records will be well within reach.
Election Day Forecast
Election Day could feature some rain late in the day. A cold front will be approaching once again from the central U.S. This will be firing up showers and storms ahead of it. As of this morning, our current forecast holds the rain off until Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. This will also likely drop our temperatures again by Wednesday into Thursday of next week. Looking ahead, the pattern does look to turn more active over the first few weeks of November.
