1 killed in hit-and-run crash on US 311 in Randleman, troopers say
Investigators say that a Greensboro woman was stopped for an unknown reason in an eastbound lane of I-40 near Wendover Avenue in a 2017 Nissan Rogue when a 2019 Ford Transit that was traveling in the same lane struck the Nissan Rogue.
According to police, the driver of the Ford tried to swerve to the left to avoid the crash but ultimately still collided with the woman's SUV.
Investigators say that the woman exited her SUV and a Nissan Sentra that was traveling east on I-40 crashed into her Nissan Rogue. A Toyota Camry then crashed into the back of a Toyota Prius and the Prius then collided with the Nissan Rogue and the woman, who was still standing outside.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by Guilford County EMS.
The driver of the Ford Transit was not injured and all others involved in the crashes suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at local hospitals.
Police say that impairment is not considered to be a factor in the crashes and that GPD's Crash Reconstruction Unit is conducting the investigation.
