KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- An armored truck employee from Charlotte is dead after he was shot multiple times during an armed robbery near a Kings Mountain ATM, authorities said.
Just before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, the Kings Mountain Communications Center received a 911 call for an unconscious man down in the parking lot of the Prescriptions Plus off Kings Street.
Witnesses reported that an employee with a Loomis Fargo Truck was attempting to service the ATM when shots rang out. As Kings Mountain Police arrived, they found a man who had been shot at least twice next to an unsecured ATM.

"My coworker said she heard two gunshots," said Tim Hord, who works at Flowers by the Falls on East King Street. "When she got here at 8:30, she heard two gunshots but saw nothing. Then when I came in shortly after 8:30, I saw this, all this commotion."
Officials say the man suffered from a gunshot wound to the upper right chest area. CPR was performed for several minutes, however, he tragically died at the scene.
The man has been identified as 29-year-old Richard Walter Henderson IV of Charlotte.
"The man got up to go to work and this is what happened," said Hord. "[He's] not going to get to go home to his family. It's a sad day."
After further investigation, witnesses and video surveillance showed a black male driving a newer model black Jeep Compass Freedom Edition that arrived before the shooting and then was seen fleeing the scene. Further footage of the vehicle showed a distinctive star located on the hood of the vehicle.
It's unclear if there is only one suspect or multiple involved.
Authorities said the armored truck employee was armed while working and had his weapon taken during the deadly shooting and robbery. It's unclear how much money was taken, if any, at this time, Kings Mountain Police said.
"It's concerning," said Chief Gerald Childress "We don't experience this type of crime in Kings Mountain. It's rare."
Witnesses reported the suspect vehicle fled the area. Investigators believe at this time it was likely the money that was being targeted, not specifically the employee.
The Kings Mountain Police Department has contacted the FBI to assist in this investigation.
"We will locate you," said Chief Childress. "We will find you. It may take some time but we'll locate you and bring you to justice."
