WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) - In what was supposed to be a sentencing hearing on Wednesday for a Winnebago County man charged with killing his parents in March 2023, it turned into a motion hearing after two motions were filed by the defense.
According to court records, 27-year-old Erik Metzig's sentencing hearing was delayed until November 20 after two motions were filed earlier in the week.

Metzig was charged with killing his two parents back on March 18, 2023. The parents died from apparent gunshot wounds, according to authorities. Erik was later found at a YMCA in Kimberly.
One of the motions filed by the defense for adjournment was due to a letter that Metzig sent to the court that "needs to be investigated." The court granted the adjournment.
The second motion filed by the defense was a motion to withdraw as counsel, labeled as an 'ethical conflict,' that motion had no objection by Metzig or by the State. The court appointed a new attorney and scheduled another status hearing for November 20.
