Dozens of East Aurora homes, businesses get into Halloween spirit

EAST AURORA, N.Y. (WIVB) — It's a holiday that many homeowners in East Aurora have been preparing for.
Throughout the village, you might see these signs, that take you to the "EA Spooky Way," an online map helps connect the community one Halloween-decorated home at a time. But it's also a committee that helps others find the treat of discovering the tricks behind building homemade displays.
"The goal is to try and help people decorate or inform people where the houses are," said Joseph DuBois, one of the participants. "So we've done tutorials on how to make candles, the spooky candles, how to do gravestones, the beef netting webbing in the back we did a tutorial on that last year."
These decorations are creations with a cause, not only to help get others into the Halloween spirit but also to help give back to the community.
"They just seems to be a real appreciation for the community building aspect the uniqueness of it, something to do with their kids," said David Moomaw, a toy inventor in East Aurora. "It's just remarkable the response that I have gotten from the community."
Moomaw has collected donations for FeedMore Western New York for years. This year, the EA Spooky Way committee is also collecting funds for the East Aurora Boys and Girls Club. The committee hopes to share the happiness Halloween brings them to others.
"Let's just take the spirit of joy and creativity from this season," Moomaw said, "and hang onto it as long as we can."
