WEST HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (PIX11) – A New York State trooper was shot on the Southern State Parkway on Long Island late Wednesday night, according to officials. The shooting happened near Exit 17 in West Hempstead around 11:45 p.m. The suspect fled the scene in what was believed to be a black Dodge Charger with a New Jersey temporary tag that reads: 997636T. The car has custom matte gray dual exhaust tips, officials said. The westbound Southern State Parkway going was shut down near Exit 18 as officials investigated.
