Cindy Whitehorn and her Halloween town in Hebron
Oct 31, 2024
HEBRON, N.D. (KXNET) — Happy Halloween! Probably no one is more excited than this woman, who plans to paint the whole town of Hebron, orange. In this week's "Someone You Should Know," we meet Cindy Whitehorn, and check out her haunted house.
"Cause who else has 25-footers in their yard? Not many people do that," exclaimed Whitehorn, when she was talking about her inflatables. Some people go all out for Christmas or Easter, however, Halloween, is Cindy Whitehorn's favorite and the whole town of Hebron knows it.
"You ever watch those Christmas displays? Well, I always wanted to do that for Halloween," said Whitehorn.
And that's exactly what Whitehorn has done. She begins decorating at the beginning of September, and by the time Spooky season officially sets in, her yard is transformed into a Halloween town. Whitehorn started it all for her grandson, in 2014 with only a few inflatables.
"Back then, I just named it, 'Jevin's Halloween Town,' not thinking it would ever get to this size of course," said Whitehorn.
Now, Jevin is 11, and his Halloween town has a total of 104 inflatables and animatronics, some are more than 25 feet tall, and she's adding to it all of the time. Whitehorn said that she has now become a spectacle, even bringing in tourists to the small town of around 750 people.
"Car parked over here. Ones parked over there. Lots of taking videos or taking pictures of it. They just want to send them to their families, or their grandkids, and show them, 'Hey look, what's out there.' Like I said, what other fool would do this?" said Whitehorn with a giggle.
Whitehorn said that she sees just as many adults as she does kids and they all get equally excited.
"It's where you can come and all your favorite characters come to life," said Whitehorn.
Although every year her collection is growing, Whitehorn hopes that her grandson will take it over one day.
"If he'll take this stuff and expand with it and make it into something like I always wanted it to be, some big attraction. Just for people to come by and see and just keep on going with it. Cause everybody loves Halloween, right?"
So, if you're looking for a spooky spectacle in a small town, head to haunted town of Hebron where you can check out Jevin's Halloween Town. KX News is claiming Cindy Whitehorn as our Hallow-Queen, Pumpkin Princess, and she's also this week's Spooky Someone You Should Know.
When she's not preparing for the season, she's bartending, or taking care of lawns around town.Cindy wanted to thank the city of Hebron and those who have continuously supported her and her Halloween Town. She also said that she will take any donated old Halloween items and put them to good use.
