BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Two men were found dead with gunshot wounds at a South Bakersfield neighborhood, and a neighbor says the men were veterans -- and they were brothers.
"I feel guilty," said Patricia Stephens. "I feel like I could've done something to help. Something more to help."
Kern Deputies discovered the incident on Cresson Court Tuesday around 4 p.m., where Stephens has lived for 37 years. She says one of the men found dead was her neighbor for more than two decades, and was caring for his younger brother.
"They had a really hard year," said Stephens. "Their health had been failing."

Investigators don't believe there are any other suspects. They told 17 News they have not ruled out the possibility it was a murder-suicide.
Stephens says the younger brother suffered from a serious mental health disorder.
"If there's anything you can do to reach out and get help if you have a neighbor in this shape -- I wish I would've," said Stephens.
Stephens says the homeowner's dogs were left behind. One of them was heard howling in the garage on Wednesday. A notification of intent to seize the animal was hanging on the front door set for Friday.
"A pit bull, Aqua, was taken away with the Sheriff's department," said Stephens.
As the investigation continues and deputies try to piece together what happened, three dogs were left behind, including one who continues to howl in the garage.
