AUSTIN (KXAN) – Court records show an 18-year-old Manor Independent School District student is facing a first-degree murder charge after police say he fatally stabbed his classmate with a kitchen knife in the Manor Senior High School bathroom. According to a police affidavit, a Manor ISD school resource officer found Darrin Loving, 18, bleeding out with multiple stab wounds near the lunch area of the school. Investigators say the officer administered first aid to Loving until EMS arrived, and he was pronounced dead after paramedics arrived. 18-year-old charged with murder after fellow Manor student dies in stabbing "He was a smart, loving, ambitious, soft giant. He loved to help people. He loved to walk. He loved to be adventurous. He was just a beautiful soul, a beautiful human being," Loving's sister, Donya Green, told KXAN reporter Sam Stark. According to Loving's sister, he was receiving special education services from the school district and had a speech impediment due to a medical issue. The school resource officer told investigators before discovering Loving, he was patrolling during one of the school’s lunch periods and overheard students yelling, “Mac Brown,” later identified as Mac Brown Mbanwei, had a knife. Manor mourns loss of student, cancels classes at high school where student died until Monday The officer told investigators he glanced toward the bathrooms and found Mbanwei's hands were in his pockets. According to court records, the officer attempted to remove Mbanwei’s hands by force and removed a kitchen knife in his hand. KXAN is working to find attorney representation for Mbanwei. We will reach out for a statement on the accusations when that information is available. Investigators said blood splatter from the scene suggested the incident began in the boy’s bathroom and moved to the hallway near the lunchroom, and video surveillance shows Loving and Mbanwei leave the bathroom. "Someone should have been there. Someone should have been there. Someone should have been occupying the bathrooms. Someone should have been outside those bathrooms," Green said. KXAN contacted the district on Thursday to ask about its protocol for monitoring students and restrooms between classes and during lunch periods, but it has not received an answer yet. The district plans to hold a vigil in honor of Loving on Friday. “It is truly a tragedy. We’re absolutely heartbroken,” Robert Sormani, Manor ISD’s superintendent, said.
