CA politician calls for 49ers to trade Bosa after Trump statements
Oct 30, 2024
(KRON) -- San Francisco 49ers' Nick Bosa made headlines on Sunday night. However, it was for what he did during an on-field interview -- showing off a "Make America Great Again" hat in support of 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
One California politician took exception to the star defensive end's political statement. Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, who says he is a lifetime 49ers fan, called for the 27-year-old Bosa to be traded.
"I hope (49ers CEO) Jed York trades Nick Bosa to Mar-A-Lago," Rivas posted Wednesday on X. "As a lifelong 49ers fan, I can say I've seen enough of Bosa in California."
Rivas reposted a clip of Bosa being asked about the hat in a postgame news conference, which has since garnered nearly 20 million views. The elected official's tweet has more than 43,000 views as of Wednesday evening.
“I’m not gonna talk too much about it, but I think it’s an important time,” Bosa said when asked about the hat.
Bosa has long been known to be a supporter of Trump, dating back to 2019 when he was drafted. The Ohio State product once referred to Trump in an acronym as the greatest of all time. The support was mutual as Trump, who was president at the time, congratulated Bosa after he was selected second overall.

A Democrat, Rivas represents the 29th Assembly District, which includes Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. He has held his seat since June 2023.
Bosa has been one of the NFL's best defensive players since being drafted in 2019. He was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 and NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 after recording a league-high 18.5 sacks.
