Fall River Diocese community members to hold demonstration for answers regarding removal of Father Jay Mello

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A group of parents, parishioners, and community members from the Fall River Diocese announced on Wednesday that they plan to hold a peaceful demonstration regarding the sudden removal of Father Jay Mello on Nov. 1.
At 11:30pm, parents, children, and parishioners will demand transparency regarding Father Mello’s removal from St. Michael’s School, which they claim has caused confusion and emotionally distress in the community.
In a press release, they said there has been a “lack of communication” from Church leadership, asking for clarity revolving Mello’s alleged accusations of sexual misconduct and the potential role it could have in his removal.
In June, Father Jay Mello was on administrative leave after the diocese received “concerning information alleging sexual misconduct by the priest,” and that an initial inquiry showed “sufficient evidence” for further investigation.
The demonstration is planned to be held at the Fall River Diocese office on Friday.
