NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Despite some passing clouds drifting east with snow showers in the Four Corners, most are starting off with mostly dry air at the surface, but it's a bit gusty from the East Plains to the Northern Mountains with west-southwesterly winds moving through with a cold front. While the mixing of the air is allowing for temperatures to struggle to drop in the Pecos River Valley, temperatures are dropping elsewhere to around normalcy. ranging from the teens to the low-to-mid 60s across New Mexico. As temperatures will rise, although not as yesterday, westerly winds will pick up a bit this afternoon with not as much blowing dust, as well as the lower fire risk than yesterday. From the morning school commute on into the afternoon, temperatures will eventually reach into the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s from northwest to southeast in lower elevation, below-normal for most communities. As the trough of low pressure quickly moves through to the northeast of the region later today, colder air will ensue tonight with below-freezing morning temperatures more likely for the first time this season by Halloween morning around the Metro, as well as surrounding areas. However, temperatures will eventually rebound later this week as humid air will stick around in the East Plains, setting up a wetter and more-wintry storm system to arrive late this weekend into early next week.
