COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD)- The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services (SCDPPPS) will again enforce a statewide curfew for some registered sex offenders on Halloween. The curfew will be in place from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, according to officials. It applies to any person on probation, parole, or other form of community supervision for a sex offense whose crime is against a child. Offenders are required to remain inside their homes and must turn off porch and exterior lights during the restricted time frame. They are also prohibited from distributing candy and participating in any Halloween parties or carnivals. Agents are expected to conduct random surveillance checks at the homes of registered sex offenders to ensure compliance with the curfew. It’s spooky season. Here are some scary stories from around the world you probably haven’t heard According to SCDPPPS, 625 residence checks were performed by agents last Halloween and six arrests were made. The curfew does not apply to all registered sex offenders, only those under the jurisdiction of SCDPPPS. Members of the public can find a list of registered sex offenders in their area on the State Law Enforcement Division website.
